Caravaggio: Calling of St. Matthew

There is humanity in His hand,
as it drapes ever delicately.
Breaking out of shadowed land,
and pointing to the ordinary.

As it drapes ever delicately,
it displays something so real.
And pointing to the ordinary,
and those known not to feel.

It displays something so real,
the way the light cuts through.
Those known not to feel,
suddenly called so to do.

The way the light cuts through,
breaks the single rim of gold.
And suddenly called so to do,
Matthew listens to what he's told.

It breaks the single rim of gold,
that ever divine band.
Matthew listens to what he's told,
because there's humanity in His hand.
